Our 2019 IMS annual user group event took place at Liverpool John Moores University's Exchange Station on Thursday 19th September 2019.


The event was attended by serivce providers and commissioners for the nine Local Authority areas within Cheshire and Merseyside. Details of speakers are available below, together with links to download their presentations.

Howard Reed, Intelligence & Surveillance Systems Manager, Public Health Institute

Howard will present an overview of IMS activity for the 2018-19 financial year, looking at trends in the data, the split between psychoactive and IPED users for NSP services, and what it tells us about low threshold provision across the Cheshire and Merseyside footprint.

Jane Webster, Data Quality Engagement Lead, Public Health Institute

Jane will provide an overview of the work she’s been engaged in with teams concerning IMS data quality over the last 12 months, what improvements have been made and where gaps in the data remain.

Mark Whitfield, Intelligence and Surveillance Manager, Public Health Institute

Mark will give an overview of the work that has taken place around drug related deaths across Cheshire and Merseyside over the last 12 months, exploring common themes and recurring factors.

   IMS & 'Brief Intervention'

Interventions are at the core our Integrated Monitoring System, but with many different teams now using IMS, does our current description for 'brief intervention' adequately cover the work that services are delivering?
Howard will present on how interventions are currently recorded within IMS, and open the discussion by presenting some new intervention category descriptions.

   The Trussell Trust

Nicola Hawkes, Simon Huthwaite and Netty Walker, The Trussell Trust

Nicola from South Liverpool foodbank together with Simon and Netty of North Liverpool foodbank give a city-wide perspective on the role of Trussell Trust in Liverpool. The Trussell Trust support a nationwide network of food banks and together we provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty, and campaign for change to end the need for food banks in the UK. There are more than 1,200 food bank centres in the Trussell Trust's network, estimated to be about two thirds of the food banks in the UK.. www.trusselltrust.org

   New Start - Harm Reduction Service

Sean Butler, Project Manager, New Start ‘RISE’ Harm Reduction Service

New Start’s Harm Reduction Service is a female only service providing a unique package of support and accommodation for women who face multiple disadvantages. www.newstarthomes.org.uk.

The service which opened on 1st July 2019 is part of RISE Recovery Services. RISE is a partnership of YMCA Liverpool and New Start, together delivering three new residential services in Liverpool.

Footsteps is a charity working in Warrington and St Helens in the North West of England. We offer listening, information and support to anyone affected by someone else’s drug or alcohol use.
